The purpose of our association shall be to impart knowledge and understanding of German law in Australia and of Australian law in the Federal Republic of Germany.
In the first few years the association exercised its activity in particular as an intermediary for contacts for German law students and trainees in Australia. In the meantime we have developed further into a network of lawyers from Germany and Australia. We endeavour to establish professional contacts for our members and also act as a contact for non-lawyers when such are seeking, e.g., a legal contact in the respective other country. Thus, among other things we are able to furnish particulars of Australian lawyers dealing with copyright law there or even provide Australian companies with details of German lawyers meeting their requirements here.
In particular at our general meeting we encourage the exchange of opinions between those who have just come from Australia and those who wish to go there. The exchange is of course not restricted to professional matters. Rather it is often more a matter of answering practical questions about the everyday life of a lawyer. Our newsletter also reports news and information from the legal, economic and political environments in Germany and Australia. Thus our newsletter is an important link between members and increasingly provides motivation to address one or other question.
